Preparing for an Earthquake

Hi all;

With the recent earthquakes, rains and possible cuts in police & fire services in San Rafael, I think its more important than ever to prepare ourselves as community. It is something we should focus on for this year.

To help, fellow BH resident and Real Estate agent Norine Castro & I have created the attached brochure “Earthquake Survival Guide” (below) which also has some general useful tips to survive a disaster - being prepared for the first 72 hours are key.  Starting next week we will be distributing these in a plastic bag with a couple of candles & some band aids to help get people started.

Also, here's a very good website to help prepare yourself and your family for an emergency:  www.72hours.org

About your Co-Presdents:

Bret Harte Neighborhood Association co-President David Leipsic is a 14 year resident of Bret Harte and from four generations of San Rafael families (his great Uncle was Mayor in the 1930's). An avid runner, perhaps you've seen him running around the neighborhood in the early morning or late afternoon, usually with his dog in tow (or off leash on the ridge-line trail). He's married to block captain Sarah and has a 7 year old son, Sidney, in second grade at Coleman Elementary School. He teaches at Miller Creek Middle School and commutes to work on his bicycle

Co-President Nigel Faulkner has lived on Blossom drive with Laura for 11 years. He loves the area and enjoys cycling, sports and gardening in his spare time. Laura and Nigel love to regularly do their walk through the neighborhood together! Nigel is a real estate agent with Frank Howard Allen in San Rafael. Previously, Nigel was in the Hotel business, followed by the Sports Marketing and Hospitality business.

From outgoing president Mark Lubamersky, May, 2008

Hi All,

This will be my final email to you. As I strain to see the monitor clearly thru my tear filled eyes I must reflect on these past five years.... YEAH RIGHT.... It has been a pleasure to help out Bret Harte and I will continue to do so in the future. Who knows where Bret Harte even is? Well, as President Emeritus my first project will be to get some signs up on Irwin and Du Bois to let the world know where Bret Harte is. I then plan to personally bury every telephone pole (or is it communication pole now?) in Bret Harte. Then one-way streets for all the narrow streets. I will then hire EVERY day laborer in the city for the next five years. And then, if I have time I will reverse the effects of Global Warming (I think I can do this with all the free time I will now have).

Great thanks to Nigel Faulkner and David Leipsic for stepping up as co-presidents. I can't help but notice it took two people to replace me but they are great guys with lots of energy to get the Association going.

Steve Theis will continue his exceptional job as Treasurer. Jim Draper will be rolling out a new website soon that will be much more user- friendly and less expensive. Juliana Billups is the new Block Captain Coordinator. Thanks to Carolee Mech for her help the past years.

ALSO

Check out Coleman Elementary International Day Saturday, May 31 from 11-4 pm.

It is a great time for the kids with food , games and an auction. All proceeds go to the school to fill in for the massive holes the CA state budget has left in the school budget.

As always,

Peace,

Mark

Hi All, I hope this email finds all of you healthy, happy and ready to take over the Bret Harte Community Presidency..... Dear GoSolarMarin friends: GoSolarMarin is extremely pleased to announce the selection of SPG Solar, Inc. as the vendor of choice for GoSolarMarin. SPG will offer the GoSolarMarin discount to all homeowners, businesses, commercial building owners, and non-profit organizations throughout Marin County through February 2008.

The "standard installation" price will be $7.94/watt, which represents a 15-20% discount from current average PV prices in Marin. In order to provide this price to the most homeowners possible, the program offers several component choices, including several brands of PV modules and inverters, and includes most ‘standard’ roof types (composition shingle, torch down, standing seam metal, flat and sloped roofs, etc.)

"We wanted to offer the best possible price to the most clients within the GoSolarMarin group, and build a program that included the most situations," states Ted Walsh, SPG Solar’s Sales Manager. "So we will offer this base price and assess the challenges of extremely steep roofs or other complicated installations on a per case basis." In this way, all homeowners going solar can take advantage of the most cost-effective pricing ever offered to Marin residents.

"We are thrilled to be selected as the exclusive provider for the Go Solar Marin Program," said Dan Thompson, President and CEO of SPG Solar. "As a Marin County resident and business owner, I’m proud to have our local workforce at SPG Solar developing and building these projects. We will provide significant discounts through this program to help hundreds of homeowners go solar, while supporting Marin’s economy through the development of green jobs."

GoSolarMarin is so excited about this that we are aiming high: We hope that Marin County will set a record for the number of homes going solar in California—maybe in the USA! We hope Marin County will inspire communities everywhere to follow our example and break free from their dependence on non-renewable energy for our homes and businesses.   Wherever you are in Marin County and regardless of the size of your house or building, you qualify for the SPG Solar rates negotiated by GoSolarMarin.

Because we made a commitment to you that we will not share your contact information, the next move is yours. Please call or email SPG directly at 415-883-SOLR (7657) or gosolarmarin@ spgsolar. com   SPG Solar will arrange for your free site survey and feasibility analysis, and offer you a comprehensive estimate. You are under no obligation until you make a final decision to go solar. Between our discount and the current California CSI rebates and Federal Tax Credit, we believe you will find the choice to go solar far more attractive than you anticipated. Thanks so much for all your support and for your interest in going solar. Lisa Max
